They were indispensable for transporting heavy, exceptionally long block trains from West Germany to the Linz steelworks. The BBÖ also transported ore trains from Hieflau - via Amstetten to Linz. After the Second World War, some locomotives continued to operate. However, due to the costly maintenance, the BBÖ soon scrapped them.
