Runs on DC or DCC powered track. NOTE: This is the Race to Promontory version with the Big Boy "chalk mark" on the boiler plate! Number 4014 is the restored Big Boy that traveled around the US from 2019 until COVID hit, and will hopefully begin excursion runs again soon. I tried another store and was put on the waiting list. Unlike new Kato steam locos I've bought, nothing fell off when I took them out of the package.

Kato is notorious for that happening, but this is made by Athearn, a much better company in my opinion. These are extremely well made and detailed. The movement is extremely fluid from low to high speeds and back.

This did not jump the track and all wheels stayed on the rails. Note there are a lot of wheels so you do need to be attentive when you put it on the track. Note that Athearn does recommend at least an 11 radius track curve to work best. Sound is loud and excellent, too.

Very realistic in every way. I know you will love this as much as I do. I did test both trains to be sure they work and light up before putting them right back into the packages, so yours is brand new in the box. Only removed briefly for testing.
